Overview

The hair-detail trick, packaged: plate minus screen colour, desaturated, gained, ADDED over the comp - weighted to the screen area so the body never doubles up. Nothing is cut, so wisps, motion blur and flyaways survive the key. Wire the assembled comp into in, the original plate into plate, eyedrop the screen.

How to

How-to

  1. Wire the assembled comp (keyed foreground over the background) into in and the original plate into plate.
  2. Eyedrop the screen into screen_color.
  3. Raise gain until hair and motion blur come back; desaturate keeps the screen's colour out of them.
  4. tolerance limits the effect to the screen area so the body never doubles up; detail_only shows just what is being added.

Parameters

ParameterTypeDefaultWhat it does
channelsChoicergbaWhich channels this node writes: rgba, rgb (alpha passes through untouched), alpha only, all, or none (bypass). Everything unselected comes straight from the input — same as Nuke. allrgbargbalphanone
screen_colorColor[0.0, 0.7, 0.0, 1.0]The screen colour - eyedrop it from clean screen in the plate. The difference from this constant IS the detail.
gainFloat1.0How strongly the recovered detail is added.
desaturateFloat1.01 turns the detail pure luminance (no green cast comes along); 0 adds the raw colour difference.
toleranceFloat0.1How much screen-channel dominance counts as screen area. Smaller saturates faster; raise it if detail is being added onto the foreground body.
detail_onlyBoolfalseShow only what is being added, with the screen-area weight in the alpha - check before committing.
disabledBoolfalseBypass: the node passes its first input through untouched (D in the graph). The knobs keep their values for when it comes back.
labelTextA note shown under the node in the graph — what this node is FOR. Never affects the render or the cache.
hide_inputBoolfalseDraw the node without its input wire — a tidy graph for a node whose source is obvious (a Dot, a viewer tap).
