Keying
Pick the keyer that matches the screen you were given, then work in the order that keeps the edge.
Pick your keyer
| Situation | Node |
|---|---|
| A decent bluescreen or greenscreen | KeyerScreen |
| Sampling the screen colour by eye | KeyerSample |
| An uneven screen that needs flattening first | CleanScreen then KeyerScreenClean |
| A colour difference on any hue | KeyerChroma |
| No screen at all — a subject in a photograph | crucible |
| A learned matte | KeyerML |
The working order
- Flatten the screen (CleanScreen) before keying it, not after.
- Pull the core matte. Do not chase the edge with the same controls that set the core.
- Kill spill (SpillKill) — before the edge treatment, so the edge is judged in its real colour.
- Treat the edge: EdgeFill for what the screen ate, EdgeLight to put the background's light back onto it.
- Merge, then regrain (Regrain). A key without grain reads as a cutout at any resolution.
