Overview

EXPERIMENTAL — still being built. Removes an object by pulling the TRUE background from the frames where it is visible: every masked pixel is filled from other frames warped through a BS_VectorBake, taking a confidence-weighted median so flicker and passers-by drop out. What no frame ever reveals is flagged in the holes matte, never invented -- turn on fill_holes to inpaint it and the matte still says where.

How to

How-to

  1. Bake the shot's motion with a BS_VectorBake and name that bake in bake_path.
  2. Wire the plate and a matte of the object to remove (matte_source chooses which input or channel).
  3. radius is how many frames either side are searched; dilate grows the matte past the object's edge.
  4. Read the holes matte: what no frame ever reveals is flagged there, and fill_holes inpaints it.

Parameters

ParameterTypeDefaultWhat it does
bake_pathTextThe BS_VectorBake output this shot was baked to -- the fill travels through its vectors. Same knob as BS_VectorWarp.
radiusFloat12.0How many frames either side to search for the revealed background. Wider finds more but costs more frames per render; if the object moves slowly you need more.
matte_sourceChoiceautoWhich plane of the matte input is the object: its alpha, its luminance, or auto (alpha when it actually varies). autoalphaluminance
dilateFloat2.0Grow the object matte by this many pixels so its soft edge -- half background, half object -- is treated as object and never bleeds into the fill.
temporalFloat0.5How much nearer frames outweigh farther ones: 0 treats every frame alike, 1 halves the weight at the edge of the search. Raise it when lighting drifts across the shot.
conf_floorFloat0.05Below this vector confidence a candidate frame is not trusted for that pixel. Same meaning as on BS_VectorWarp.
fill_holesBoolfalseInpaint the pixels no frame ever revealed from their surroundings. Off, they stay the plate's own and the holes matte shows them; on, they are filled AND the holes matte still shows them, so the fill is auditable.
outputChoiceresultWhat rgba shows: the result, the holes matte (what nothing revealed), filled_from (which frame each pixel came from -- dark is early, bright is late), or the confidence. The same three ride along as layers cleanplate.holes / .from / .conf whatever is shown. resultholesfilled_fromconfidence
bake_budget_mbFloat4096.0Memory allowed for the loaded bake frames. If the search radius does not fit, the node says how many frames it dropped.
disabledBoolfalseBypass: the node passes its first input through untouched (D in the graph). The knobs keep their values for when it comes back.
labelTextA note shown under the node in the graph — what this node is FOR. Never affects the render or the cache.
hide_inputBoolfalseDraw the node without its input wire — a tidy graph for a node whose source is obvious (a Dot, a viewer tap).
